A 28-year-old Canutillo woman was arrested Monday evening after El Paso Sheriff's Deputies discovered her 4-year-old daughter had been left alone in poor conditions for about two hours.

EPCSO were dispatched to a home in the 7000 block of First St. in Canutillo just after 9:00 p.m. Monday evening in reference to a possible child endangerment. When Deputies arrived, they met with an employee of Child Protective Services who told the Deputy that she was conducting a welfare check on a woman claiming to live there when she was greeted by a 4-year-old girl who was home alone.

The Deputy entered the home and found that the conditions inside were poor and inadequate for a young child. During the investigation, the girl's mother, 28-year-old Evelin Herrera, arrived home and Deputies discovered that the child had allegedly been left alone for about two hours.

Herrera was arrested for Abandoning or Endangering Child with Intent to return and taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond. The young girl was turned over to her grandparents who lived nearby.
