CANUTILLO, Texas — Canutillo Independent School District is moving forward with their search for a new superintendent after unanimously agreeing to enter into a contract negotiations with a search firm Tuesday night.
The board of trustees will be speaking with Proact Search after deciding to part ways with Superintendent Damon Murphy admist a TEA investigation into cheating allegations.
"It's critical the board chooses the best individual that fits the district and moves us in the right direction," said Board of Trustees President Armando Rodriguez.
Proact Search is currently helping the El Paso Independent School District find a new superintendent.
The board discussed how the firm already having a database of applicants to the area could be beneficial to the district.
Laure Searls said the district had to be careful in making sure they didn't end up with a bad choice.
Rodriguez added finding the best fit for the area is crucial.
"It's critical the individual we choose is sensitive to our students needs and culture here in Canutillo," Rodriguez said.
Before signing on with the firm, the board plans on asking if it's possible to look at all applicants and not just those Proact recommends.
The board would also like to see any prior experience the firm has had with smaller districts.
Rodriguez said a meeting could take place later this month and they hope to find a superintendent by April.
