It was a day of empowerment for cancer survivors and newly diagnosed patients.

The Rio Grande Cancer Foundation hosted their 5th annual workshop called Keep on Dancing at the Wyndham hotel on Saturday.
The full day event featured keynote speakers who have bounced back from the worst stages of cancer. It also included pain management sessions, creative energy classes, acupuncture therapy and other kinds of physical therapy. Organizers say it's a day to empower others to take charge of their own health.

"We feel that cancer is just a misstep. You just gotta pick up your shoes and keep on dancing to be empowered to live beyond the cancer diagnosis. To thrive and to continue their lives and to prevent recurrences and to learn really practical tools about how to live fully after a cancer diagnosis," said Patty Tiscareno with the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation.

Tiscareno says the organization strives to get rid of the burden of cancer in our community.
