Campgrounds closing for Winter

The Quemado Ranger District of the Gila National Forest is closing the Piñon and Juniper Campgrounds on Monday, September 30, 2013, for the winter season. Both campgrounds will reopen May 1, 2014. Several other campgrounds will remain available for camping throughout the winter months.

Temporarily closed for the winter:
• Piñon Campground, located in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area off N.M. State Highway 32 and Forest Road 13.
• Juniper Campground, located in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area off N.M. State Highway 32 and Forest Road 13.

The following campgrounds will remain available for camping on the Quemado Ranger District:
• El Caso Campgrounds- located in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area off N.M. State Highway 32 and Forest Road 13,
providing picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and garbage services.
• Armijo Springs Campground- located off State Highway 32 and County Road A021, provides picnic tables, campfire rings,
and a vault toilet.
• Valle Tio Vinces Campground- located off County Road A095 near Mangas Mountain, provides picnic tables, campfire rings,
and a vault toilet.
• Head of the Ditch Campground- located off Highway 180 near Luna, NM, provides picnic tables, campfire rings, and vault toilets.

Recreation users are reminded to practice Leave No Trace principles, to dispose of waste properly and leave the campsite clean for the next forest visitor.
