Burglary Suspect Arrested, Tracked by an iPad

Monday, November 12, 2012 - 2:24pm

El Paso Police arrested a teen after he was located by using tracking technology which was installed on a stolen iPad. El Paso Police responded to a report of a Burglary of Vehicle which had occurred in the 2100 block of Myles. As the investigation continued the owner of the laptop was able to pinpoint the device’s location at Gateway West and Piedras. Officers met with the victim outside of the McDonalds where the victim indicated that his stolen iPad was inside the fast food restaurant. Officers identified 17-year-old Ricardo Sanchez as a suspect and recovered the stolen property. Officers learned that Sanchez had seen the iPad inside of the vehicle and broke a window to steal the property. Sanchez was arrested on a charge of Burglary of Vehicle as well as several outstanding traffic warrants. Sanchez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. His bond totaled: $964.00

As a reminder during the coming holiday season the El Paso Police Department would like to remind everyone that items left inside of vehicles and visible to others are easy targets for would-be burglars. Please take the time to remove items or store them out of sight in the trunk of your vehicles.
