EL PASO (KDBC) — A 9-year-old boy is struck and killed by an SUV while riding his bike in Central El Paso.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the incident happened Thursday night, at the intersection of Jefferson and Raynor Streets. Officials identify the boy as Jose Cordova.
Investigators say that Cordova was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk at the intersection of Jefferson and Raynor. At the same time a Ford Expedition, driven by 31-year-old Christina Montes, approached the intersection to make a turn.
Police say Montes was turning from Raynor onto Jefferson when Cordova crashed his bicycle into the front right quarter panel of the SUV. Cordova then fell and was struck by the Ford.
EMS rushed Cordova to University Medical Center for treatment, however he was pronounced dead a short while later.
EPPD investiators say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. They add that this is the 30th traffic related death of 2013 compared to 35 at this same time in 2012
