El Paso-area drivers are seeing lower prices at the gas pump, echoing a nationwide trend.

According to the American Autombile Association (AAA) survey, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $3.35 a gallon. That price is down 21 cents from just one month ago.

Here in the Borderland, prices have dropped below the $3 mark for the first time in several years.

According to ElPasoGasPrices.com , prices in and around the city are now below the $3 level, with the Alon gas station at Fairbanks Drive and Rushing Road selling gas at $2.85 a gallon.

The archive information on the website indicates that, last year at this time, drivers around the area were paying an average of $3.07 a gallon.

AAA officials tell CNN that they expect gas prices to continue to fall, dropping another 10- to 20-cents a gallon by Christmas. They add that the drop in price is due to steady demand, sufficient supply and a the cheaper to produce winter blend of fuel.

This is good news then. Not only do gas prices drop its prices but some consumer goods as well. Reports says that Consumer Price Index report was flat from the first quarter of the year. It is the most recent indicator that inflation is leveling off in the United States. This is a very positive development in consumer spending.
