Black smoke signals no pope has been selected

Wednesday, March 13, 2013 - 8:22am

Black smoke billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel at 11:39 a.m. (6:39 a.m. ET) Wednesday, indicating that cardinals gathered in the Vatican to elect a new pope had not agreed on anyone in their second or third ballots of the conclave -- and that they are moving somewhat faster than expected. The cardinals will break for lunch and then resume voting.
