An area dentist found himself behind bars this morning after the El Paso Police Department alleges that he was practicing dentistry without a license for almost three years.

Richard Montoya, 63, whose office is located at 2507 E. Yandell in the Five Points was arrested at his office Thursday morning by detectives with EPPD's Financial Crimes Unit. According to a police spokesperson, a complaint was filed with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) on June 3, 2013 by a patient who was unhappy about dental services Montoya provided.

While processing the complaining against Montoya, the TSBDE discovered that Montoya had his license revoked by the TSBDE on April 15, 2011 but he had continued to practice dentistry in the El Paso area.

EPPD located Montoya at his office Thursday morning and placed him under arrest on six counts of Dentistry Act Violation. His bonds total $30,000. EPPD emphasizes that this is an open investigation and invites citizens to contact police if they have any questions regarding the case.

According to EPPD, patients are not considered the victim in this case. The TSBDE is considered the victim and the board will be following up on the charges related to this case.
