EL PASO — The city engineering department and an architect instrumental in the design of El Paso's future downtown baseball stadium showed new renderings of the ballpark today.
Populous, the design firm which has planned many of the most recent major league stadiums, promises an "intimate, exciting" stadium for El Paso, with an urban feel enclosed by city streets reminiscent of Fenway Park in Boston or Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The intended features include party suites to hold as many as 16 fans, picnic areas, and a family play area that's kid-friendly. A water wall past the center field fence will stream a waterfall throughout the games.
The architects hope to draw from the legacy of El Paso architecture, including details from the Kress Building and the Union Depot train station. In addition, the stadium roof over the grandstand will be copper-colored, a tribute to the decades of copper mining that led to El Paso's first population boom.
