ANTHONY, N.M. — The Border Network for Human Rights was hoping to pass a resolution with Anthony, New Mexico trustees that would help protect citizen's rights Friday afternoon.
The group said they have documented reports of area law enforcement conducting immigration checks with residents.
"A lot of people are hearing for the first time that you have rights regardless of your immigration status," said Cristina Parker a member of the Border Network for Human Rights.
The group says the recently incorporated town of Anthony can set the tone for dealing with law enforcement in the future.
BHNR hopes to pass the resolution when the town meets again next Wednesday.
