Family Threatened by Cartel
EL PASO - The Porras' are the largest single family to see asylum from Mexico to the U.S. They're from the village of Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua.
On Father's Day, June 17th, three Porras brothers lost their father, Rodolfo Porras Gonzalez. He was buried on June 18th. The next day one of the brothers. Jaime Porras Salas visited his father's grave. There, he was shot in the back of the head.
The family says the government is controlled by the La Linea cartel. They were threatened and told to leave. If they didn't, they would be killed.
The family got the attention of a convoy of federal police passing through the area and asked them for help. The Porras stayed with police in Ciudad Juarez for five days. During that time, their dairy farm and possessions were all destroyed or confescated.
The family believes their political association has contributed to their persecution.
