In his weekly commentary, Maj. Gen. Dana Pittard, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss Commanding General, described the current multiple deployments and missions involving Fort Bliss Soldiers:

"We clearly have an expeditionary force here on Fort Bliss, one capable of meeting the challenges our country and its allies face around the world. Two weeks ago, with almost no notice, we deployed A/4 Air Defense Artillery (a THAAD Battery) to Guam to defend against a North Korean ballistic missile attack.

This month we have a 1st Armored Div. Headquarters contingent in Saudi Arabia, working with Saudi military officers on staff planning. As noted, we are also preparing to deploy elements of the 1st Armored Div. Headquarters to Jordan. We have two brigades, the Combat Aviation Brigade and the 1st Brigade/1st Armored Div., as well as Soldiers from 4the Brigade/1st Armored Div. currently in Afghanistan. We have an aviation battalion in Kuwait and an air defense artillery battalion in the Middle East. We also have the 204th Military Intelligence Battalion supporting SOUTHCOM and other worldwide missions.

When we say 1st Armored Div. and Team Bliss are a globally-connected, expeditionary force, this isn’t just us beating our chests over here in west Texas and southern New Mexico. Clearly, 1st Armored Division and Team Bliss together represent an agile, lethal force capable of responding quickly to complex threats around the world.

You should be proud to serve at Fort Bliss – you are part of units that are engaged around the world and globally responsive. If you are reading this online and you’re not part of Team Bliss, you should want to come to Fort Bliss for your next assignment if you want to be on the tip of the spear of modern conflict and training.
