El Paso, TX (KDBC) — An 18-year-old was found near Palo Verde Park in West El Paso, the El Paso Police Department said. Officers responded to a shots fired call to Palo Verde and Rio Flor, what they found was the victim near the parking lot of the park.
Sergeant Chris Mears, with EPPD, told us they received the call at 7:07 pm, Monday night. The victim appeared to have been targeted and it was not a random crime, authorities told us.
While our crew was at the scene, a family of four came running to the area, crying. A woman was heard screaming out, "They killed my son." Authorities have not confirmed whether or not the woman is related to the victim. There were groups of people huddling together crying around the area. One man claimed he knew the victim, but told us he would not release his identity.
Homicide and Crimes against persons are expected to remain at the scene for several hours. The crime scene is outdoors and investigators will need the morning light to help aid them in their investigation, Sgt. Mears told us.
The victim's identity and a motive have not been released.
