14 Sun Metro bus stops to be 'deactivated' due to TXDOT construction in South Central El Paso

Several thousand bus riders in South Central El Paso will soon have to find a new place to catch their bus. Sun Metro officials say they are being forced to detour six bus routes along alameda because of TXDOT construction. They also say they will temporarily deactive 14 bus stops along Alameda Avenue from Concepcion to Buena Vista.

The bus company says they recently got word of the TXDOT construction. The road work for a new roundabout in this area will add to the existing work. Sun Metro tells us that several thousand people depend on the bus system in South Central El Paso to do their shopping and other errands.

"There are a lot of people who can't walk. They would get on the bus in front, there, but they took away the bus,” Lupe Lucero explained in Spanish. Lucero says she doesn’t have a car and takes the bus.

"There are some alternative bus stops around that area but for safety and the safety of the public we can't stop and drop off or pick up people in the near area,” Laura Cruz-Acosta, the Spokeswoman for Sun Metro says.

Sun Metro says the temporary detours can change and if you have any questions you can call them at 533-3333. TXDOT’s roundabout construction begins next week and the first phase may take up to two months.
