$1,000 reward offered for suspect in 2013 Berino, NM beating death

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that will help them locate a 36-year-old man who is suspected of beating a man to death in Berino, NM over a year ago.

Joel Ponce, 36, who also goes by the name Joel Alvarez, was allegedly involved in a fight with 41-year-old Juan Perez on May 18, 2013 in Berino, NM.

Perez was found with severe head injuries, and was taken to an El Paso hospital where he later died.

Witnesses at the scene identified Ponce as the man who was involved in a fight with Perez the day he died. Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is now offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps locate Ponce.

Ponce is described as a Hispanic man, 5-feet-7-inches tall, weighing approximately 280 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair and may have shaved his head. Ponce has contacts in Dona Ana County, El Paso, and northern Mexico.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers reminds citizens that anyone suspected of harboring Ponce could also face criminal charges.

Anyone with information that can help police locate Joel Ponce is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.
