Your El Paso Hispanic Chamber will host a Regulatory Fairness Hearing with U.S. SBA’s National Ombudsman Brian Castro on Wednesday, July 23.
The National Ombudsman's mission is to assist small businesses when they experience excessive or unfair federal regulatory enforcement actions, such as repetitive audits or investigations, excessive fines, penalties, threats, retaliation or other unfair enforcement action by a federal agency. Such hearings and roundtables are conducted around the country and El Paso hasn’t seen one in about seven years. Small business stakeholders will testify on a number of wide- ranging issues that concern any federal agency, ranging from the IRS, the Department of Energy, Commerce, Labor, CBP, etc. Issues reported by participants undergo a high-level fairness review at the appropriate federal agency, and the Office of the National Ombudsman works with its federal agency partners to address those concerns, reduce regulatory burdens, and help small businesses grow.
Those wishing to testify must register and provide written statements in advance. RSVPs and testimony should be forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org, by July 16, 2014. Anyone desiring confidentiality may request that his or her name not be released and may submit written testimony in lieu of a public appearance at the hearing. If you have questions please contact Jose Mendez at (202) 205-6178 or Pamela Morales at your El Paso Hispanic Chamber at (915)566-4066.
